A must vote for!  Army Spouse and Lady Nightstalker.

Via Thea Agnew:

Vote for the 2009 Army Military Spouse of the Year

Thea A.
Fort Campbell
Clarksville, TN

Nominated by: Arthur A.
Number of Years as a Military Spouse: 19

Personal Quote:

"As I look down at hands that aren't so young anymore, I ask myself what have I done to deserve such a nomination as Military Spouse of the Year? I was given a call to duty over 19 years ago. I serve alongside my husband with Pride and humility. I serve alongside you, the Spouse, with tears, hope and strength. Like many of you, these hands held the hands of the man I love not knowing if there would be a next time. I am humbled and honored to be among you as One of the Strong. I will always have the passion for the Military Spouse and bring awareness to who we are and what we do. LNSDQ! "

Nomination Essay:

www.msoy.milspouse.com

Military life is all Thea has known. Born into a military family her father, Retired CW3 Long, was a founding Night Stalker. As a military teen she had been through Foster care while in Korea due to a step-father's abuse, while her mother was away. When she came home to the US and graduated High School, she married me, at age 18, just a PFC. By age 23 she had given birth to our 3 children. Thea always made our living quarters a home, no matter how big our place was. We had it rough for awhile. To the point of having to be on welfare stamps, which was very humiliating to us both, but it helped us get ahead to where we no longer needed the help. When we got orders to Germany, she had to take our 2-1/2 year old, 1 year old, 2 month old, and 2 dogs through Dallas/Ft.Worth and Germany by herself. Within a week, she was by herself with 2 toddlers and an infant in a foreign land. Thea is a survivor and made friends fast and soon became a volunteer for the Red Cross, earning her an award and pin. She volunteered as Newsletter Editor, Secretary, Vice-President, and President for PWOC in the 3 years we were in Germany. She always gave of herself, sacrificing her dream to be a dedicated Spouse and raise our children, all with a smile on her face and heart. See, her dream was to sing in the big arena. I am writing you because we all sacrifice something. I know our Spouses are fighting here on the Home front. My wife has sacrificed her dream. I saw this and tried to bring it back to life. I am with the 160th and when I shared a tape of her singing, 9 years ago, they asked her to sing the National Anthem. She started receiving requests to sing for Change of Commands, Memorials, Formals, Change of Responsibilities, Retirement Ceremonies, September 11th Remembrance Ceremony, Distinguished Service Cross Ceremony, etc... When asked what she wanted to be paid, Thea offered her services free and said it would be an honor. They started giving her Unit coins. The 160th asked the Nashville Preditors to allow Thea to represent our Unit Spouses during the opening season of 2007-2008. Now she is being asked to sing for the Nascar's Hot Shot Qualifications at this year's Sprint Cup. She is on a journey of singing and people are taking notice. Thea's image and whole being is Military. She is going into Nashville as a Military Spouse, Representing the Spouses of our Military. She comes with a drive and determination to make a difference in the vast majority of lives out there. To bring hope to our Spouses, that dreams don't have to die when you sacrifice. Thea could have given up on her dream to sing but she is a Lady Night Stalker and you must know that Night Stalkers Don't Quit!

Committee approves eminent domain for marina

Long overdue for the City of Clarksville.  This will certainly increase tourism and playtime in the River District.

Via Roland Woodworth "Clarksville-Fort Campbell Area Realtor":

It looks like the City of Clarksville has set the path to get the New Marina here in Clarksville. In doing so, The city Finance and Administration Committee approves eminent domain to acquire property from the Clarksville Jaycees so they can proceed with plans for the marina. As a past Jaycee and past chairman of the North Tennessee State Fair I have mixed feelings on this. Yes I would like to see the city move forward with growth and add things for our community. I just want to be sure that the Clarksville Jaycees are not put in a bad position. I understand there have been ongoing discussions on this topic for some time now.

I have heard rumors that the City is looking to relocate the fairground and build the Clarksville Jaycees a new building somewhere in the area to the left of the BP Station there on HWY 13-48 just across from the current fairgrounds park.

I have seen some of the plans for this project in the past and I still have some questions too. I will be curious about the new condos that are possibly to be built on this property. In todays news release states for more on this story, see tomorrow's Leaf-Chronicle.

Military Family Benefits that you need to know about

Our Country has went along way in caring for the Soldiers who defend and serve us as well as their loved ones.  Here are some new benefits and services that need to be passed along to the Families of our Heros:

Federal Employment Made Easier for Military Spouses:  President Bush signed an executive order allowing hiring managers for all federal agencies to hire qualified military spouses without going through the competitive process of advertising the job. The executive order will apply to spouses of active-duty members on PCS orders, spouses of 100% disabled, retired or separated military members, or unremarried widows or widowers of a military member who is killed while on active duty. The new hiring authorities will not be put into place until the next year.

Raytheon "Thanks" Military Children with a Free Book:  To thank the children of the military for their daily sacrifices in the name of protecting America's freedom, Raytheon Company is sponsoring the distribution of the holiday book "It's a Family Thanksgiving! A Celebration of an American Tradition for Children and Their Families." This educational gift will be donated to military families upon request through AUSA Family Programs. To receive your free copy, please send an email to familyprograms@ausa.org with your mailing address. The copies will be given out on a first come, first serve basis. Please limit your request to two copies per mailing address.

Commissary's Scholarship Program for Military Children Opens November 3rd:  Beginning November 3rd, scholarship applications will be available in commissaries worldwide and online through https://www.commissaries.com or http://www.militaryscholar.org. Dependent, unmarried children (under the age 23) of active duty personnel, reserve/guard and retired military members, survivors of service members who died while on active duty or survivors of individuals who died while receiving retired pay from the military may apply for a scholarship. All applicants must be planning to attend, or already be attending, an accredited college or university full time in the Fall of 2009, or be enrolled in a program of studies designed to transfer directly into a four-year program.

Free YMCA Membership for Families of Deployed Servicemembers:  The Department of Defense (DoD) announced that families of deployed members of the National Guard and Reserve, active-duty Servicemembers on independent duty and families, and active-duty Servicemembers and families assigned to selected bases are eligible for free family memberships at participating YMCAs.  To sign up for the program, families must complete a YMCA/DoD eligibility form, available at http://www.militaryonesource.com, and provide a copy of deployment orders and a military ID to their local YMCA.

Golden Corral Restaurants Salute America's Heroes: On Monday, November 17, from 5 to 9pm, all 485 Golden Corral restaurants across America will offer any person who has served in the United States Military a free "thank you" dinner buffet and beverage (no identification is required). This is the eighth year Golden Corral restaurants have honored Servicemembers. In addition to the dinner, now until November 17th, Golden Corral's guest may send a personal greeting to America's military personnel on active duty overseas by filling out a postcard available at all Golden Corral restaurants. The postcards will be delivered to the troops prior to the holidays. To find a Golden Corral near you, go to http://www.goldencorral.com/.

Attention Military, Veterans, and Families

Some very good information that needs to get out to all:

New Law Helps Guard and Reserve Members with Debt Relief:  The National Guard and Reserve Debt Relief Act of 2008 became public law 110-438. The law, sponsored by Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL), will ease bankruptcy rules for Guard and Reserve members who have served as active duty Soldiers. The law was drafted from complaints by guardsmen and reservists whose small businesses and personal finances dwindled due to recurring combat deployments. The law prevents courts from dismissing bankruptcy cases based on means-testing if the Guard or Reserve member has been on active duty since September 11, 2001 and was active for more than 90 days. The law is effective through the first year and a half following the Soldier's return home.

Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2008 Becomes Law:  The Veterans Benefits Improvement Act of 2008 has become public law 110-389. The law pushes the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to use electronic filing and processing of claims to help expedite claim findings, reduce inconsistencies in decisions involving similar issues, and decrease the number of claims that end up being overturned. The law also creates a new authority to provide a temporary disability rating for those veterans who have severe and multiple disabilities that are not fully healed.

Law Grants Special Allowance to Certain Survivors:  The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act (110-181) established a special payment for surviving spouses who are Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) beneficiaries, but whose SBP annuity is reduced by their Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC). The 2009 National Defense Authorization Act added survivors of members who died on active duty to those eligible. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service- Cleveland (DFAS-CL) will automatically pay Special Survivor Indemnity Allowance (SSIA) to surviving spouses whose SBP accounts show a DIC offset beginning October 2008. Surviving spouses entitled to SSIA can update their bank account information by contacting DFAS-CL at 1-800-321-1080 or by calling your Retirement Services Officer.

Survivor Benefit Plan's "Paid Up" Status Began October 1st:  Retirees who have paid as least 360 Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP) premiums and are at least 70 years old were considered "paid-up" as of October 1st. The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) will stop the payments automatically.

5.8% COLA Increase Applies to Veterans and Survivors:  President Bush signed the Veterans' Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) Act of 2008 into public law 110-324 in September. Disabled veterans and survivors receiving the dependency and indemnity compensation will receive a 5.8% benefit increase to match the hike in Social Security. Though the increase takes effect on December 1st, it will first appear in January's checks.

Apply for Veterans' Benefits in Advance:  The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has a program available for injured active-duty Servicemembers to submit their claims for benefits prior to separation from active-duty.  The program, "Benefits Delivery at Discharge," attempts to avoid new veterans from being caught-up in a backlog of claims for benefits.  Claims can be filed within 180 days of discharge.  However, the claim is not fully processed until the Servicemember leaves active-duty.  A preliminary disability rating is determined based on physical exams and a review of medical records in order to reduce waiting for the first disability check.  The program is available at major U.S. military bases, to include Coast Guard facilities and at regional VA offices.

VA is Now Accepting Online Claims Applications:  The VA is now accepting online applications (VONAPP) for initial applications for disability compensation, pension, education, and vocational rehabilitation and employment benefits. VONAPP allows users to apply without the hassles of location, postage costs and time delays through mail delivery. VONAPP also provides a link to apply for VA health care benefits.

Let's Get Ready to RUMBLE!!!!

Are you READY??  Time to get your game face on folks.  Monday Night Football is upon us in Nashville Tennessee!  The Titans play host to the Indianapolis Colts.  The Titans are the only undefeated team in the NFL and look to keep this streak alive.

We in Tennessee are estatic that our team is doing so well.  With a stout defense and one of the top tandem backfields in the league we certainly hope this is our year.

For me, being a lifelong Titans (aka Oilers) fan I have seen them at the worse and at the their best.  Bum Phillips kicking down the door - Luv Luv Ya Blue - Earl Campbell, etc.

Let's get it ON!  Cold and windy night in Nashville won't keep the fans away.  The house will be rockin!

Go Titans!!

Most accurate 2004 Pollster calls it a dead heat

Very good information that needs to be shared.

Via Simon Conway:

We all know that the 2004 polls were incredibly wrong, but there was one that was pretty accurate - IBD.

And now this organisation which uses tipponline as its polling partner, has the race all but tied up in a statistical draw. The deep analysis makes very interesting reading too.

the following is a link from IBD's website (Investor's Business Daily).

Do you remember the last Super Majority in U.S. Government?

The year was 1977 and the President was none other than Jimmy Carter.  The Democrats held both houses and enjoyed a filibuster proof super majority in the US Senate.  Many are not aware that the current housing crisis is directly tied to this era.  Why you might ask?  Well that would be the time when the Democrats pushed through the Community Reinvestment Act.

If the current polls hold, Barack Obama will win the White House on November 4 and Democrats will consolidate their Congressional majorities, probably with a filibuster-proof Senate or very close to it. Without the ability to filibuster, the Senate would become like the House, able to pass whatever the majority wants.

Most Americans probably don't realize it, but this could be one of the most profound political and ideological shifts in U.S. history.  Many are have been blinded by the left leaning media beating the drum and ensuring that Americans believe that manna will fall from the heavens should this transpire.

Just to give you a little taste of what could come to pass, should we allow the Democratic party and their radical supporters take control, here are just a few of the hot ticket items that could become reality:

- Medicare for all. When HillaryCare cratered in 1994, the Democrats concluded they had overreached, so they carved up the old agenda into smaller incremental steps, such as Schip for children. A strongly Democratic Congress is now likely to lay the final flagstones on the path to government-run health insurance from cradle to grave.  If you think this is a good thing, just ask the Canadians.  Oh, and if passed it could never be repealed.

- The free market and our financial markets.  While we all believe that there needs to be accountability, this will be more of a surgical witch hunt.  A partisan movement that will not get to the root of the cause.  Democrats could cause the economic downturn to last longer than it otherwise will by enacting regulatory overkill. And let's not forget about windfall profits tax on oil, and maybe other industries.

- The reemergence of the Union supremacy.  Unions have been on the downturn and do not have the power they once did.  With the monetary support the large unions in our country have given to the democratic party - watch for this to be rewarded.

- Taxes.  Read my lips - TAXES WILL BE RAISED on you and Joe the plumber.  It is inevitable.  Big government = big expenses plain and simple.  Sure the Dems can repeal the Bush tax cuts and 'claim' that they did not raise taxes but that is merely a play on words - end result is your taxes will rise.

- Go Green.  I am all about finding ways to recycle and use of renewables, but folks, you aint seen nothing yet.  A tax-and-regulation scheme in the name of climate change is a top left-wing priority. Mr. Ozone himself will be back on the scene and the Green Revolution will officially begin.  Oh, and by the way, anyone who lives in the Nashville area knows that Mr. Gore preaches one thing but certainly doesnt live by it.

- Free speech and voting rights. A liberal supermajority would move quickly to impose procedural advantages that could cement Democratic rule for years to come.  How does election day voter registration hit you?  That is one of the goals of ACORN.

- Military reduction because we are a country of peace and love and not of war.  Afterall, many of the far left in our country still believe that our own government caused 9/11 - a big conspiracy dont you know?  We will see a shift in global power and possibly the start of a new arms race that we certainly cannot afford.

Folks, this election means so much to so many.  You have the opportunity to make an informed decision or to simply vote the party line.

Again, as we see now - THIRTY years later.  The decisions of today will impact our children in the future.  You want to point fingers?  Better get informed before pointing in the wrong direction.
